The Zambia Cooperative Federation is the Apex body of the cooperative movement in Zambia

Established on April 13, 1973, by a collaboration of Primary Cooperative Societies, the government's Department of Marketing and Cooperatives, and supporting donor organizations. ZCF serves as the leading body of Zambia's cooperative movement. acting as a central secretariat. The federation represents cooperatives nationwide through its affiliated organizations. Its reach extends across the country, operating at provincial, district, and even village levels.

What is a cooperative?

  • Cooperatives are people-centred enterprises jointly owned and democratically controlled by and for their members to realise their common economic, social and cultural needs and aspirations. As enterprises based on values and principles, they put fairness and equality first allowing people to create sustainable enterprises that generate long-term jobs and prosperity. Managed by producers, users or workers, cooperatives are run according to the 'one member, one vote' rule.

Cooperative Impact

ZCF has a large membership and national geographical coverage, with an estimated membership of over 3 million, represnting about 14% of the Zambian population.
